Abstract

3001. Casgrain, L. A. Feb. 8. Scales.-In a speed-indicator the scale to be read is helically arranged on a cylinder which is given a helical motion to bring the graduations in front of a fixed reading aperture, and the spring controlling the movement is arranged to be unwound as the speed increases. The scale-bearing cylinder 1, provided with vanes 14 and mounted on a hollow screwed shaft 3, is caused to rotate against the spring 7 by vanes 8, Fig. 2, revolving in a liquid contained in a casing 17 and thereby brings the graduations shown in Fig. 3 opposite the reading aperture in the casing. The cylinder and vanes are surrounded by a glass casing 22 held between the outer casing 17 and the part 26 by a nut 20, and the shaft 3 is locked to the casing so that on loosening the nut 20 the whole can be revolved to bring the reading aperture into a convenient position.
