H. S. HART WATCHMAN S RECORDING MECHANISM Fil ed June 13. 19,21 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Patented July 3, 1923.
UNITED STATES .HARRY S. HART, OF SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA.
WATCHMANS RECORDING MECHANISM.
Application filed June 13, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY S. I-lnnr, a resident of Shreveport, in the parish of Caddo and State of Louisiana, a citizen of the UnitedStates, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watchmens Recording Mechanisms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in watchmens recording mechanism and the main object of my invention is the provision of a device which will keep a permanent and absolutely corect record of the manoeuvres of the watchmen, to indicate that he is performing his service or duty in a rcliable and proper manner.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device capable of production at a very low price to provide a substitute for the expensive and complicated mechanisms at present in use, and which will keep an accurate record as to hour, minute ano day of the watchman in order to render it 1111' possible for the watchman to neglect his duty without making such neglect instantly known.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device of the character and for the purpose stated which will be small and compact in size to occupy a very small space and which can be operated with ease eith r from within or from the outside, and which in either instance will perform its function in a reliable manner.
Another object of my invention is the pro vision of a device of the character stated which may be used in connection with an ordinary and cheap clock and which by reason of its few parts will not get out of order and which generally in every particular will provide a desirable, Gl'liClGlli) and thoroughly practical device for the purpose intended.
The invention consists of a recording mechanism of the character stated embodying novel features of construction and com-- bination of parts substantially as shown, de scribed and particularly defined by the claim, the right being reserved to make any changes in the structure which come within the scope of the claim.
In order that the details of construction embodied in my invention and its operation may be understood, as well as its many ad vantages be fully appreciated, I invite atten- Scrial No. 477,209.
tion to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a complete recording mechanism constructed according to my invention, the cover of the case being open to disclose the construction of the encased mechanism.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 represent on an enlarged scale detail views of the recording dial and associated mechanism, and
Fig. 5 represents a face view of the dial used in my recording mechanism.
Referring by numeral to the drawings, in which the same numbers are used to indicate like parts in all of said views:
The numeral 1 designates a cabinet or case which is of the desired size and pro vided with a hinged door 2, and a lock 3 of suitable character and having at one end a window 1, to permit observation of the dial of the clock 5, which clock is placed in the casing adjacent one end thereof.
To the head 6 of the minute hand shaft 7, of the clock 5, is connected the inner member of the universal joint or connection 8, while its other member 9, engages the head 10, on the shaft 11, which is connected to operate the gearing 12, which rotates shaft l t, to a speed of one-twelfth of the speed of rotation of said shaft 11, to properly move recording dial 15, which is retained upon its mounting by clamp 13.
To the end of the case above said dial is secured the lug 16, which has pivoted thereto the yoke 17, which is provided with an opening 18, to receive th threaded end 19, of the rod 20, formed at its lower end with a pointer 21, disposed in the slot 22, of the strip 23, secured to or formed integral with said yoke 17, the slot in said yoke being of a length to correspond with the series of circles 23 of the dial, in which circles are placed the days of the week, from Sunday to Saturday, thus permitting the rod with its pointer to be adjusted by means of the nut 24L to travel over th spaces to indicate upon the particular day and the particular.
hour, as indicated by the numbers 25, on said dial, while said indicating rod is held in its desired adjustment by means of the nut 24.
From the construction described, it will be noted tnat the mechanism for indicating and recording is connected to and operated by the minute shaft of the clock, and further that the indicating mechanism is adjusted from day to day to record the time as to the hour and day of the week, and to operate said indicating and recording mechanism, I provide the yoke 27, which is connected to the indicating rod and has secured to it at 28 the outer end of the link 29, whose inner end is connected at 30, to the lever 31, which is pivoted at 32, to the case, and by means of the rod 83, said lever may be moved from the outside, or by means of the rod 34, said lever may be moved from the store or inside, which action of either rods moves the lever upon its pivot, pushing the indicating rod with its pointer inward to punch the dial, which is backed by the cork or like strip 35, which punch mark indicates upon the dial the exact time the watchman operates the machine either from within or from without, and thus insures the keeping of an absolutely perfect record and check upon the watchman to enable a person to know whether the watchman is performing his duty in a proper manner.
The most important feature of my invention resides in the fact that the mechanism is of simple and reliable construction and can be operated with ease from the minute and hour shaft of an ordinary clock and provides an inexpensive device which will perform its functions in an efiicient and practical manner.
I claim:
A mechanism of the character described, consisting of a case, a clock disposed in one end of said case and having its dial visible from the outside, a separate recording dial arranged in the other end of said case and connected to move with the shaft of said clock, an adjustable indicating means secured to said case and operated manually to record the day, hour and minute on said recording dial, said means consisting of a rock lever pivoted to the case, operating rods extending in opposite directions from the outer ends of said lever, a thirdrod connected to the said lever and extending inward to move with said rock lever, a rocking frame connected with said rod, a slotted depending arm, an adjustable indicator mounted in said rocking frame and having an indenting device passing through said slotted arm to indicate upon the recording dial when moved inward by action of said rocking frame.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature. I
HARRY S. HART.
