Lifting-dogs and the like. -A device for raising and holding up heavy bars, such as the stamp-stems of stamp-mills, consists of a saddleshaped piece a, Figs. 2 and 3, adapted to be applied to the bar e from one side, the bar being gripped in the saddle by a moving member or pawl g at one side pressing the bar into a recess at the other side, while the device is held up by shackles b attached to chains, which may pass clear over the top of the stem. The pawl is mounted so as to swing vertically on a bolt h between lugs d, and is formed with a hole m, which is half round on the outer side and square on the inner side. The bolt has a heavy handle k, and is formed with a flat l to allow the pawl to move back when the flat portion is turned towards the stem. The inside of the saddle and the end of the pawl may be roughened to increase the grip.
