Abstract

23,889. Sankey & Sons, J., and Sankey, G. H. Oct. 15. Locking nuts.-In a self-locking screw cap having a separately movable device for positively locking the pawl, means are provided for ensuring that the cap is securely locked before the operating - spanner can be removed. As applied to a detachable wheel, the cap carries a spring-pressed pawl d engaging teeth on the permanent hub and is operated by a ring spanner E having a cam surface f, which depresses the projection d<2> on the pawl when it is required to unscrew the cap. The pawl is positively locked by means of a sliding bolt e, which is actuated by the spring e<2> to bear on the nose of the pawl and is withdrawn by means of a cam g operated through the pin g<1> and arm g<2>, on the outside of the cap, which, in the position shown, projects beyond the periphery of the cap and prevents the removal of the spanner.
