Abstract

[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Aerial machines without aerostats ; planes, arrangement of.-The aerial machine is provided with main and tail planes 2, 23 mounted on a longitudinal frame 1, which may be covered with canvas. The tail is arranged below the level of the main plane. A screw propeller 3 is arranged at the front of the machine. Steering.-Elevating-planes 5, hinged at the forward end, are arranged at each side of the frame 1 below the main plane 2, and are moved together by cords passing around a hand-wheel 7. The rudder 24 is hinged at its rear end 25 above the fixed tail 23, and is controlled by cords attached to the front end and passing around a hand-wheel 26. The side of the tail plane to which the rudder is turned is depressed and the other raised in order to assist the steering.
