Abstract
22,025. Nosworthy, W. H., and Prescott, S. J. Oct. 6. [Cognate Application, 3137/12.] Aerial machines without aerostats; steering and balancing; propelling.-The rear part A' of the body of an aeroplane is detachably pivoted on a vertical pivot G to the forward part A carrying the supporting - planes and propelling - mechanism, and is covered with canvas or like material so as to serve as a rudder. The part A' is provided at its forward end with a toothed sector gearing with a wheel h<2> operated by a hand-wheel. The main planes j of the machine are turned in opposite directions about a transverse shaft simultaneously with the operation of the rear part A<1>. A transverse bar is carried by a slide n movable in guides on a wheel L gearing with the wheel h<2> and engages with cranks depending from the planes. When the wheel L is turned to adjust the part A', the planes j are turned oppositely. When the slidebar n is moved longitudinally by a separate hand-wheel, the planes are turned in the same sense. According to Provisional Specification 22,025/11, planes on the rear of the machine may be adjusted simultaneously with the main planes; and Provisional Specification 3137/12 describes the propellers and the framework within which the engine is mounted as being carried upon a turn-table for steering horizontally, the main planes being adjusted simultaneously with the propeller.
