Abstract

18,739. Cake, H. M. Oct. 12, 1909, [Convention date]. Driving-arrangements for screw propellers.-Comprises a propulsion mechanism in which two propellers, adapted to rotate in the same direction, may be so driven that the speed of one is dependent upon the resistance offered to the other. In the form described, the driving- shaft 1 is provided with a head 2, carrying bevel-wheels 3, engaging bevel-wheels 7, 10. These bevelwheels are secured to co-axial shafts 11, 15, the bevel-wheel 7 by means of the casing 8 to the hollow shaft 15, and the bevel-wheel 10 directly to the shaft 11. The work done by the propellers is thus equalized whether the propellers are of the same or of different sizes. The pitch of the two propellers may also be dissimilar.
