[Addition to 13,870/10.] Rotary valves.--In rotary-valve mechanism of the kind described in the parent Specification, the split ring i forming the valve is mounted in a recess in the periphery of the valve-carrier h, so that the pressure in the cylinder does not act on the interior of the valve to press it against the casing. The gases pass from the cylinder ports b to the port in the valve by way of a groove h<4> extending across the face of the carrier h, adjacent to the port in the valve. When the valve is lubricated from a central oil feed z, a rib h<5> is provided in the groove h<4> to prevent oil from running freely into the groove as it passes the oil feed. The carrier h has disk-shaped ends h<2> fitting against the ends of the casing. The valves may be arranged across the cylinder head as shown, or in a casing parallel with the cylinder. When the valve casing extends across two or more cylinders, a split ring is provided between the end disks of adjacent carriers h.
