Rotary machines. - A rotary machine is so arranged that it can print on one side of two webs or sheets by independently-driven cylinders; or the cylinders may operate successively to perfect one web or sheet. As shown in Fig. 2, a machine consisting of a printing- cylinder p<1>, impression cylinder d<1>, inking- apparatus f<1>, driving - apparatus m<1>, and a delivery apparatus a<1>, and similar parts p<2>, d<2>, f<2>, m<2>, a<2>, is arranged to print on separate webs r<1>, r<2>, or sheets b<1>, b<2>. When however it is desired to perfect one web or sheet, the parts p<2> ... a2 are moved with their frame so as to cause the cylinders d', d<2> to contact. The frame is carried by a base-plate g operated by a screw actuated by a bevel-gearing operated by hand. In a modification, Fig. 4, the cylinders d<1>, d<2> are mounted in fixed frames; and when the machine is desired to perfect, two cylinders z<1>, z<2>, which, as shown in Fig. 4, do not contact with each other, are brought into contact with each other by actuating eccentricbearings in which they are mounted. The bearings are provided with spur-wheels actuated by pinions on a hand-shaft, and a spring- controlled bolt locks them in their adjusted positions. By means of the cylinders z', z<2> a sheet or web printed on by the cylinders d<1>, p' is transferred to the cylinder d' to be perfected by the cylinders d2, p<2>.
