Abstract

11,783. Gill, J. May 12. Movable-abutment type; valve-gear. - A reversible rotary engine having rotary abutments is provided with duplicate valve-controlled inlet and outlet ports in the end covers of the casing. A drum 4, carrying vanes 9, is secured to a shaft 5, which operates the rotary abutments 10 through gearing 13, 12. Duplicate sets of inlet ports 18, 18<Î> are provided in the end-cover 2, and corresponding sets of outlet ports 19, 19<Î> are provided in the cover 3. Valves 20, operated by a hand-wheel 24, cover one of the sets 18, 18<Î>, and valves 25 control in a similar manner the sets 19, 19<Î>. The vanes 9 project over both sets of ports, and as they rotate they uncover the exhaust ports first.
