Abstract
24,559. Umpleby, F. Nov. 16. Gas and like engines.-A rotary engine comprises a piston of trochoidal contour rotating within a cylinder to which it is geared, admission and exhaust taking place through valve-controlled ports in the cylinder ends. A cylinder 6, ribbed to radiate heat, is provided with spring-pressed abutments 11, having shoes 10, which bear on a piston 1 secured to a shaft 2. Teeth 21 on the shaft 2 at each end of the cylinder gear with internal teeth 20 on a boss 19, formed as an extension of a disk 18, which is bolted to the cylinder 6 outside its enddisk 13. Both disks 13, 18 are provided with ports 31, 32, 33, Fig. 11, and between them works a valve disk 23, secured to the shaft 2 and provided with a port 23<a>. A band-regulated disk 28 in the fixed casing 25 controls the admission of the gas mixture to the ports 31, 32, 33, which are passed in turn by the port 23<a>, the piston making three revolutions to two of the cylinder. Ignition is effected by sparking-plugs 38, which make contact with a metal bridge 46, connected by a make-andbreak device 39, 40 to an induction coil 45 or the like.
