5891. Thorp, T., Thorp, F., and Thorp, H. T. March 9. Mixing-valves.-A device for mixing two or more fluids, such as air and gas, in which the proportions and pressure of the mixture may be varied at will, comprises a pair of tapered lift valves H, H<1> rigidly secured to a spindle J, which is provided with a dash-pot K and loaded by a spring M of the kind described in Specification 5791/05, the whole being completely enclosed by a casing. The valves are controlled by the differential pressure on a diaphragm C of the outlet pressure of the mixture and the inlet pressure of one of the fluids. Each inlet may be fitted with an ordinary diaphragmoperated pressure-regulator, either in the same or in a separate casing. In a modification, the pressure on the larger valve member is used to actuate the valve, and a dead weight load is used in addition to the spring load. In another modification, sliding valves mounted on spring- pressed guide-rods are employed, the size of one of the openings in the seat being adjusted by a sliding piece controlled from outside the casing.
