Abstract

793,360. Valves. MULLER, J. Sept. 13, 1954 [May 19, 1954], No. 26447/54. Class 135. An automatic regulator for regulating the pressure of a fluid for a given flow in a duct connecting a source of fluid pressure to a consuming apparatus, comprises a duct 1 which includes in series a first venturi passage 2 co-operating with a valve regulating member 3 connected by a linkage 22, 20, 19 to a hermeticallysealed bellows 12 and a second venturi passage 4, 5 co-operating with a valve regulating member 6 connected by a linkage 45, 43, 42, 40, 39 to a hermetically sealed bellows 32. The bellows 12, 32 are subjected externally to the pressures in chambers 7, 8 downstream of the valve members 3, 6, respectively and loaded by springs 14, 34. The pressure in the chamber 7 and the position of the valve member 3 are determined by an adjustable screw-threaded spindle 16 whilst the pressure in the chamber 8 and the position of the valve member 6 are similarly determined by a screw-threaded spindle 36. The spindle 16 also through a linkage 24, 25, 26, 28 adjusts the venturi flow passage 4 to give a flow rate corresponding to the position of the valve member 3. Pressure in the chamber 8 is transmitted through a line 53 to act on a spring- loaded diaphragm 55 which acts as a damper to absorb hammer effects, a scale 58 giving an indication of this pressure. A lever 40 besides being part of the linkage 45 ... 39 coacts with a switch 52 and with a spring-loaded button 50 to open a normally closed valve 49 so that in the event of a sudden increase in pressure in the chamber an electric motor driving the supply source is stopped and the valve member 3 closed.
