Abstract

3212. Feidt, J. Feb. 20, 1909, [Convention date]. Rack-and-pinion actuated pumps.-A device for converting rotary into reciprocating motion, shown applied to reciprocating pumps, comprises a driving-pinion 3 engaging the toothed inner edges of a frame 4 mounted upon a slide-block 5 connected to the member to be driven. The frame 4 is mounted between flanges 11 and is guided transversely to bring the upper and lower racks alternately into engagement by means of a rectangular slot 9 thereon engaging a fixed lug 8. In the arrangement shown, the slide-block 5 drives a crank-shaft 13, which drives the piston members of pumps 10 through a second pinion 3' and a similar rack frame 4<1> and slide-block 5<1> &c.
