Abstract

1737. Bear, F. B. July 23. Hand driving-mechanism; treadle mechanism. -Relates to hand or treadle driven machinery, such as emery wheels, boot-finishing machines, hair-brushing apparatus, &c., of the kind wherein reciprocating motion of a pedal or hand-lever communicates continuous rotary motion to a shaft by means of a chain or the like attached at one end to the operated member and connected at the other end with a return spring, the chain gearing with a free-wheel attachment upon the driven shaft. According to the present invention, the return spring is in the form of a spiral or clock spring j secured at one end to the frame of the machine and engaging at its free end with a lever i. The free extremity of this lever is connected to the end of the chain g. The invention is shown applied to a saw bench.
