Abstract

Reinforced-concrete floors; ceilings.-Relates to the type in which the ceiling-slabs form a permanent centering for the floor filling, and are supported by small joists forming a reinforcement for the floor beams. As shown in Fig. 1, flanged bars a, resting on the walls and supported at intervals by staging, carry boards or concrete slabs b j above these are laid the moulds for forming the concrete beams e. When the concrete has set, the staging is removed and the ceiling finished with plaster &c. In a modification, the slabs are dished to form a panelled ceiling, and the beams, running in two directions, are moulded in situ by means of square frames. A layer of sand, ashes, &c. may be placed over the slabs, which may be flat. The bars a may be perforated to receive the beam rods, and their lower flanges may be covered with wire netting to key the ceiling plaster.
