Floors; ceilings; reinforced concrete.-Relates to concrete floors &c. of the type in which the reinforcing-bars are suspended from metal joists by means of stirrups. Fig. 1 shows a floor reinforced by cruciform bars c, shown also in Fig. 3 ; a modified form of bar is shown in Fig. 4. In both forms, the horizontal member may be increased in cross-sectional area at its junction with the vertical member. The stirrups are narrower above the bars c, and are slotted so that the bars bed at the bottoms of the slots ; spaces e are left at the side to key the concrete. The soffits of the joists are protected by concrete slabs h, Fig. 5, suspended from the lower flanges by bending over the galvanized hoop iron bars l, and having an air space i and bevelled edges k. The concrete filling f, g is applied by means of temporary centering. The flooring n may consist of granolithic stone, asphalt, tiles, cement, or wood. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the stirrups are longer and support the floor bars c and ceiling bars v, the latter being of cruciform or other shape in section. Expanded metal o forms a key for the plaster under the joists.
