Floors of reinforced-concrete girders side by side; ceilings.- A hollow floor and ceiling is formed of inverted T-shaped reinforced-concrete joists 1, Fig. 3, having dovetail - shaped webs and placed closely together, and a top layer of concrete 8 which is cast on boards 7 laid over the joists and supported between them by wooden laths 5 and transverse boards 4. A layer of sound - deadening material may be placed over the joist flanges, and strips of felt may be inserted at the bearing-faces of the boards 7. The reinforcement for the joists is shown in Fig. 2. For large spans, transverse joists 14, Fig. 5, are cast between the boards 4 and are reinforced by bars and shear members 13. The ceiling plaster is applied to wire netting &c. suspended by hooks or wires which are inserted between the flanges of the joists.
