Angle-iron strengthening-bars and struts b<6>, b<7>, b<8> are riveted to the plates, and bear against the flanges of the girders. Corrugated metal sheets E and wood flooring-strips d are secured to the joists by nails driven in between the plates b<1>, b<2>, and a layer F of concrete or the like is applied above the metal sheets. The wood flooring d is nailed to strips d' fixed across the strips d. Metal strips C, for supporting the ceiling, are connected by wires to the joists, and are formed with tongues c, which pass through slits in metal sheets G and expanded metal lathing H. Pins c<3> are inserted in holes in the tongues below the sheets G, and the ends of the tongues are bent under the lathing, which is plastered in the usual manner. The spaces between the floor and ceiling prevent the passage of heat, fire, and sound, and the metal sheets prevent the passage of water.
