Abstract

341,166. Centring for concrete floors and ceilings. RICHARDSON, J. O. C., Abbey House, Victoria Street, London. Nov. 6, 1929, No. 33800. [Class 20 (ii).] A centring for concrete or like flooring, of the kind carried by beams entirely encased by the concrete or the like and wherein boards or plates suspended from the beams are spaced therefrom by spacer blocks, comprises arched sheets spanning the space between adjacent beams and supported by the boards, the edges of the sheets being located by abutments formed on the boards or plates. As shown, an H-section joist 2 has suspended from the lower flange thereof a number of L-shaped bolts 7 arranged in pairs. The bolts 7 pass through holes in a plank 8 which is spaced from the joist 2 by a number of spacer blocks 10, and is secured in position by nuts 9. The planks 8 carry strips 11 which support the edges of plain or corrugated arched centring sheets 3, preferably of sheet metal, which bridge the space between adjacent joists. Nails 13 are driven into the strips 11 and the protruding heads thereof provide abutments for the edges of the sheets 3. Concrete 4, reinforced by steel rods 5, is poured on the centering to the desired height and when it has set the plank 8, strips 11 and the centring 3 are removed. The protruding heads of the bolts 7 may be used for supporting temporary ceilings or machinery or they may be sawn off. The spaced blocks 10 are preferably of the same material as the floor and form a fireproof covering for the joists when these are of wood. A further reinforcement may be provided by winding steel wire around the joist in a spiral manner from end to end. In a modification, a number of short lengths of steel wire are passed over the joist at spaced intervals and are employed to support the plank 8. In a further modification, the strips 11 are dispensed with and the centring 3 abuts against nailsd riven through the plank 8. The plank 8 may be strengthened in each case by T-iron secured to the lower surface thereof.
