Abstract

137. Frommer, R. Jan. 21, 1909, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breech - block.- Relates to cartridge - feed mechanism for guns, in which the barrel and breechblock recoil together and by means of a pair of spring clips, mounted on a transverse slide, withdraw a cartridge from the holder, the cartridge being moved along the slide into alinement with the breech as the barrel alone returns. According to the invention, the cartridge is transferred, at the end of the recoil movement, to a second pair of clips on a slide, which is moved transversely in guides in the fixed casing, by the return of the barrel. Fig. 2 shows a sectional plan of the arrangement. The longitudinal slide 6, connected to the barrel projection 4, is provided with a groove 7, which actuates a slide 10 for a step-by-step motion to the cartridge belt, and a groove 8 which gives a transverse movement to the cartridge-carrier slide 13. The cartridge is withdrawn from the belt during recoil by pincers 15 and conveyed to clips 29, 30 on the slide 13. At the end of the recoil the breech-bolt is held in its rearward position by means of a catch, and, on the return of the barrel, a projection 14 on the slide 13 engages with the groove 8 and alines the cartridge with the breech. The cartridge is retained in the slide 13 by a catch 33 until released, by the action of an incline 37, during the transverse movement of the slide. The breech-bolt is released, when the barrel reaches its forward position, and rams the cartridge into the breech. The feed - mechanism is arranged in a hinged cover 38, Fig. 9, so as to be readily accessible, and the barrel may be easily removed, after opening the cover 38, by operating a rod 50 by means of a hand-lever 57.
