Abstract

11,007. Christophe, A., and Menteyne, P. Jan. 2, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Machine guns. - The barrel 1, breech-frame 2, and breech-block 3 recoil together, until the locking-pieces 4, pivoted at 32 to the breech-block, are depressed into line with the guide-grooves 43 in the breech frame, by arms 50 coacting with fixed cam-grooves 29. A lever 15 actuated by a stop 42 on the breech frame withdraws the firing-pin 5, and through the stud 6 carried by the latter throws back the unlocked breech - block in the breech frame. During the recoil, the fired cartridge is extracted by the extractor 10, which is carried by a pivoted block 11 and is actuated by stops 37, 38 on the casing 20 of the gun. At the same time, a loading-arm 7, pivoted at 48, is swung upwards, to receive a fresh cartridge from the removable magazine 26, through the contact of a pivoted arm 8 with the stop 39, the lowest cartridge being pushed out of the magazine by a block 51. In the raised position of the arm 7, its rear end 46 depresses the arm 8 out of engagement with the stop 39, and the further recoil of the breech frame brings the end 46 into contact with the stop and lowers the arm into the loading position. The return of the parts to firing position is effected by a spring 49 acting on the breech frame 2, the movement being imparted to the lever 15 through the medium of coacting parts 30, 41. The forward movement of the firing-pin relatively to the breechblock prior to the locking of the latter is prevented by projections 52 on the locking-piece 4, which in the unlocked position engage in front of shoulders 53 on the firing-pin. The action may be commenced by means of the hand-grip 19, and a pivoted catch 26 is provided to engage with a projection 36 on -the breech frame to retain the parts in their rearward position. Special means are used for securing the magazines 26.
