Tubes, rods, and the like, are carried singly or in groups by interchangable rings m on two endless conductive chains i passing over wheels e<1> which are longitudinally adjustable on two shafts d outside the electrolyte. Submerged guide-wheels h' are mounted in frames g<1> adjustably attached to U-shaped beams supporting the upper shaft bearings. The chains are partly insulated by varnish, and the lower wheels may be of insulating material. Anodes o are hung outside and within the chains. When tubes are to be plated internally, insulated anode rods p are inserted and are attached to an additional conductive chain or chains, mounted similarly to the first and optionally made of material such as aluminium which is insoluble in the electrolyte. The holding-rings may be rotated by means of gear wheels engaging fixed tappets.
