Abstract
20,057. Coles, S. O. Cowper-. Sept. 1. Barrel apparatus; electrodes.-A barrel a for use in plating small articles is supported at one end by rollers b, and at the other end is attached to, but insulated from, a flanged sleeve c mounted in bearings on a pedestal or bracket. Through the sleeve passes a stationary or revolving rod j, on which are oppositely-inclined sets of adjustable arms, carrying respectively dished soluble anodes l which face the heap of articles to be plated, and an insulating-shield p. The rod is attached to a pivoted arm j<2>. The barrel is provided with doors in its side and in one end, and with longitudinal internal slats; it may be driven directly by a belt i, and is electrically connected by a brush m<1> and copper strip. The articles are discharged on to a grating, and the electrolyte may be regenerated in a separate cell with soluble or insoluble anodes.
