Abstract

215,044. Coles, S. O. Cowper-. Jan. 1, 1923. Roller-conveyer apparatus.- Iron or steel wire or strip or other drawn sections are coated with zinc or another metal by passage through an electrolytic bath and simultaneous subjection to a rapid oscillating motion sufficient to throw off the adherent film of electrolyte. In the apparatus shown the wire passes over rollers c supported by arms d secured to a rockshaft e a lever i on which is oscillated by an eccentric rod actuated by a power-driven pulley. The anodes o are supported by bus-bars p and are separated by wooden plates having V-shaped upper edges supporting the wire. Connection is made to the wire by contacts r mounted on bus-bars q supported by the arms d. Electrolyte is circulated between the cell and a filtering tank arranged alongside it by a pump. The wire turns on itself in passing through the cell, an even coating being thus produced. In a modification, the wire passes forward through the cell and then back, the anodes being arranged between the forward and return lengths. Specification 195,997 is referred to.
