Abstract

394,117. Electroplating. FESCOL, Ltd. and WILSON, R. E., 101, Grosvenor Road, London. April 27, 1932, No. 12142. [Class 41.] Tubular anodes 2, Fig. 1, are employed in which the articles 7 are supported in a stationary manner, for example by wires 8 from a bar 9. The wires 8 are maintained central by spacing discs 11. The anodes 2 are inserted in holes in a metal bar 3 and secured by nuts 6. The bar 9 is provided with insulating end blocks 10 adapted to fit over dowel pins on the bar 3. When insoluble anodes are employed they may be welded to the bar 3 or welded to one another and to end conductors. In the work-support shown in Fig. 5, the articles 7 are held between spring-pressed cones 17 adjustably mounted on the rod 12, double cones 18 being provided for spacing. The cones may be replaced by flat washers ; in this case the intermediate washers are separated by springs. Means may be provided to prevent deposition on the inside of the articles. The rods 12 are passed through holes in a supporting bar and secured by nuts. The articles to be plated may consist of wires or strips. For chromium-plating the anodes may be of lead or of steel with or without a coating of lead.
