Abstract
26,272. Stevens, A. C. Nov. 12. Latches, sliding; night-latches.-In a tubular mortise latch, the casing is in two parts, the part A being secured to the face-plate D, and the other part being provided with legs for attachment to the face-plate and to the back end a<1> of the part A respectively. The latch bolt-bar F extends over the follower, and terminates in a downward projection f<1>, which bears against a bridge-piece a<2>, and against which the spring presses. The bridge-piece a<2> also forms a bearing for the follower E. The follower is formed with an extra arm e<2> adapted to enter a slot f<3> in the bolt-bar F and secure the latch when the knob is fastened, a plate secured to the knob being provided with holes, through one of which a pin can be inserted into an aperture in the door when it is desired to hold the latch in either the shot or the withdrawn position. In a modified construction, a ward plate a<5> is placed across the casing as shown in Fig. 3.
