Abstract
28,749. Brown, W.V. Dec. 31. Latches; locks, key.-In a cylindrical mortise latch, the bolt 8 is formed cylindrical to fit the case, and with a central core portion cut away. The follower 14 is mounted in the bolt with arms 15 extending into slots 13 in the bolt, and is held in place by the knob spindle. The spring 16 is located in the recess of the bolt, and is guided by a loose block 17, which bears against the follower. In the rear part of the bolt is mounted a rotatable cylinder 23, which is adapted to be turned by a key, and has an arm 24, which operates a spring device 28 secured to the bolt to cause the stop 31 thereon to enter the slot 32 in the casing, to lock the bolt in its shot position. All the parts are contained within the bolt, thus rendering the bolt easily adaptable to right and left handed doors.
