Abstract

12,701. Marillier, F. W. June 1. Locks, key; latches. - The mechanism of the sliding-door fastening described in Specification No. 18,617, A.D. 1905, is so arranged that the casing can be fixed in an aperture on one side of the door instead of having to cut right through the door. The casing a is made in one with the face-plate a', and is of approximately D-shape with an upward extension a<5>. The front plate a' is convex in shape to suit the edge of the door and is recessed at one corner to receive a latch bolt b, which has one surface convex to correspond with the edge of the door and is guided by lugs b<1>, b<2>, passing through the recessed portion of the plate a' and having slots b<3> which are engaged by projections on the c o v e rplate. The bolt is under the control of a spring c, and is operated by a recessed handle d, such as that described in the above Specification, the boss d<2> of which passes into the casing a and is secured by a washer h, through which and the boss a pin i is passed. To the boss d<3> is secured the follower e which acts on the lug b<2> on the latch. The boss d' of the handle is made hollow, and located therein is a thimble g which is also secured in position by the pin i. The washer h is provided with a projection h<1> for operating a sliding bolt j to lock the latch b, the washer being allowed sufficient movement in relation to the handle boss to allow a key inserted in the thimble g to rotate it to operate the bolt j independently of the follower e. The follower e is provided with a recess e<2> to take the square boss of the inside handle which is of the same type as the outside one. In a modified construction, the locking-bolt j is spring-controlled, and the washer h is held in either of its positions, with the bolt shot or withdrawn, by means of a spring pin.
