Screw propellers.-In an aerial machine supported by two screw propellers rotating in opposite directions on concentric shafts, each propeller comprises four triangular blades, the gap between adjoining blades being of about one-fourth of the width of a blade. The frame of each blade is formed of a central radial arm c, T-shaped in cross-section, and curved on the upper side, a flat curved circumferential piece d, and two flat pieces d<1> connecting the ends of the piece d to the middle of the arm c. To prevent the formation of eddies by the downwardly-extending web3 of the T-section arms c, these webs are covered with strips of fabric joined at their edges to the fabric of the blades. The ends of each piece d are connected by cords or wires e to the central hub to form supports for the edges of the fabric of the blades. Stay cords or wires n, s', m, m<2> also connect the ends and centre of each piece d to the propeller shafts above and below the blades. The cords or wires n above the upper propeller are attached to a plate o, formed as a nut, which can be raised or lowered to adjust the tension by turning a screw p, which bears against a block fixed within the propeller shaft.
