Abstract
305,642. Thomas, M. J. C. M. Feb. 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Current motors. -Relates to current motors having feathering vanes, and which may be used in streams, particularly of water, having alternating direction of flow. The vanes are arranged and controlled so that the current acts effectively upon them while the shaft is rotating through an angle of more than 180‹. A frame b fixed to the shaft a carries the pivot bars b, b<2> of the feathering vanes d<1>, d<2>. Arms e<1> - - e<4> are connected by cords f - - f<4> to. springs h<1> - - h<4>, the ends of which are secured to a collar i. The speed may be maintained constant by a centrifugal governor j which is adapted to position the collar i and so adjust the tensions of the springs h<1> - h<4>. Hydraulic or pneumatic devices may be substituted for the springs. Several frames b may be provided, and more than one vane may be fitted in each frame.
