Abstract

26,841. Jones, C. Nov. 26. Turbines.-Wind motors comprise two shafts B mounted in a rigid frame A and carrying grooved pulleys D, around which pass bands or chains but preferably wire ropes E. These ropes are connected by wires I to ensure their travelling at the same speed, and also by bars F carrying pins H to which the sails are attached. The sails consist of vanes K of sheet metal or other suitable material, flat. curved or corrugated, and fixed, preferably at an angle of 45 degrees, to a tube fitting over the pins H. A guide-vane L keeps the sails to the wind. The ends of the rods F, which may be fitted with rollers, are guided by grooves M, Fig. 3. Sails on both sides of the pulleys B tend to produce rotation in the same direction. In the sail shown in Fig. 5, the blades K are hinged at R<1> to a frame R, and at P<1> to a rod P, the latter being connected by a spring S to the top of the frame, which is attached to the tube as before. By this means, the blades give slightly under increased wind pressure and act to a certain extent to regulate the speed.
