24,610. Fontaine, T. de. Oct. 26. Charging.-The hopper for a blast furnace or gas-producer is constructed with an annular water trough through which the materials are passed into the furnace. The trough b is formed round the opening leading to the furnace, and dipping into the water is a rotary internally-vaned bell d. In operation, the materials are fed into the hopper through the valve f, are lifted over the rim of the trough by the vanes e, and are distributed in the furnace by the device i. Vanes may be provided on the outside of the bell to break up the materials in the hopper.
