23,054. Babcock & Wilcox, [Babcock & Wilcox Co.]. Oct. 13. Charging.-A charging or distributing apparatus for gas-producers, blast furnaces, &c. comprises a hopper 1 closed by a bell valve 9 connected to a lower spreader-plate and valve 15 by a hollow cylindrical body-portion '13 having guiding-arms 14. The lower portion 7 of the hopper is loosely supported on the circular projection 8 so that it can be lifted, if necessary, by the bell valve 9 to allow the spreader-plate to seat firmly against the surface 4. The upper end of the hopper may be closed by a pivoted door 2, and escape of gas through the opening for the operating-lever is prevented by a slotted washer 12. The lower end of the charging-casing is shaped to form a water-trough and sealing- flange as shown.
