Charging. - The hoppers of blast furnaces are made in sections in two portions, the lower portion B being formed with a continuous or interrupted flange or projection 6 to engage a corresponding recess in the upper portion. When it is desired to remove the bell or to provide a new seating therefor, the sections of the lower portion of the hopper are disconnected and removed or temporarily supported in the upper portion by means of the flange 6 engaging with a recess 7 at a higher level.
