Abstract

Compression engines; driving-gear.-The impulses of twin-cylinder engines are conveyed to the crankshaft at different points in the same plane, the points being so selected that the pistons reach their dead-points simultaneously. The engines, which may comprise any number of pairs of cylinders, are particularly adapted for use on cycles and motor vehicles. In the engine shown in Fig. 1, the connecting-rods l, p of a pair of radial cylinders actuate the driving-shaft through a crank-pin o and a divided eccentric i respectively. The sheave of the eccentric is formed on the inner faces of a pair of fly-wheels h, and is embraced by the divided end of the rod p, which is suitably slotted to permit the movement of the rod l.
