Abstract
21,846. Feuerhake, W. Sept. 24. Squirting.-To improve the quality of seamless metal tubes, the perforated red-hot block is subjected to pressure before squirting. A red-hot block of metal is placed in the carrier q, and the mandrel d is advanced by fluid pressure in the cylinder c to pierce the block and close the orifice in the matrix i, as shown in Fig. 2. The presser k is moved down to the block by pistons l, and is actuated by the piston b to give the required preliminary pressure. The wedge p is then actuated by the piston n to raise the mandrel d slightly, so that continued pressure by the piston b forces out the metal in the form of a tube.
