Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement of; propelling.-An aerial machine is built up of a number of units, each comprising an openended box, a propeller mounted within the box, and one or more adjustable planes situated in the path of the air current. In the machine described, four units are connected together by rods. The top and bottom surfaces of the boxes do not extend as far to the rear as the sides, in order to accommodate the horizontal steering-planes. The top and bottom surfaces of the boxes are extended laterally to form supporting-surfaces H ... H<5>, and the sides A<4> have triangular extensions a<5>. The propeller B is mounted at the front of each box. Steering and balancing.-At the rear of each box are placed three sets C, C', C<2> of superposed adjustable planes. The inner sets C are connected to the frame k<1>, Fig. 4, of a gyrostat k mounted on an axis k' transverse of the machine. The planes at the front and rear of the machine are turned in opposite directions when relative movement takes place between the frame of the machine and the gyrostat due to a forward or rearward tilt. The outer sets C<2> are so connected to the frame L' of a second gyrostat L, which is mounted in the longitudinal axis of the machine, that the planes at the two sides of the machine are turned in ooposite directions when the machine tilts sideways. The middle sets C<1> of planes are connected to an operating-handle and control the inclination of the machine.
