Converters; cast - iron and scrap processes.- In the combined converter and cupola furnace described in Specification 21,123/97, a bath or well C is provided at the bottom of the cupola A to correct irregular melting of the iron or steel and to enable a uniform metal to be supplied to the converter B, the bath C being furnished with tuyeres similar to those of the converter. If necessary, carbon may be. added in the converter to make up any deficiency. Additional air tuyeres may be placed above the steel bath in the converter B to burn the carbonic oxide and so maintain the temperature.
