[Cognate Application, 13,401/09.] Tread bands, projections, and surfaces. - Co mparatively thick plates a of metal or other material, shaped to fit the tread of the tyre and preferably roughened to prevent slipping, are secured by countersunk rivets f passing through the cover and through plates e on the inside of the cover, the interval between the plates being large enough to ensure flexibility of the tyre but not so large as to allow the tyre surface to come in contact with the road. The plates may be relatively long as shown in Fig. 1, or short as shown in Fig..3. Asbestos or like strips b are placed between the plates and the cover, and the rivets f are separated from the plates by fibre or like tubes g. A strip of leather or the like is placed between the air-tube and the inner plates c.
