Tread projections and surfaces.- Non-skid devices for pneumatic tyres comprise metal plates b, serrated or otherwise roughened on their wearing surfaces, which are shaped to conform with the shape of the tyre and are secured by one or more integral or attached shanks c passing through the outer cover a. In the form shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the ends of the shanks are flattened to receive washers n, which are fixed by turning them to engage recesses in the shanks. The shanks may however be riveted over washers or provided with nuts or cotters. Two or three plates may be secured side by side transversely on the tyre, as shown in Fig. 7. Rubber washers, strips, or bands e may be placed between the plates and the cover; and leather or rubber strips or bands q may be placed inside the cover. The plates may be formed with projections or ribs f to engage the tread of the tyre to prevent them from turning. A layer of rubber or other material may be provided to protect the airtube from the ends of the shanks.
