Abstract

8920. Fabry, R. F. F. April 15. Coke ovens.-Horizontal or inclined ovens, working with intermittent gas supply as described in Specification 5801/08, are formed with flues which widen from the gas inlet to the outlet so that there is a uniform rate of combustion all along the flues, the effect of the increasing dilution of the combustible constituents being neutralized by the fall in the velocity of the current. As shown in Fig. 1 in a regenerative coke oven working with reversal of the air supply, the air passes from the regenerator D and along the flues H to the burners I, the mixed gases burning along the flues H' and passing to the regenerator D'. The flues H, H<1> widen in plan view from the burners I. In a non- regenerative coke oven, gas and air are supplied to each of the flues H, H<1> at their narrow ends. The invention is also applicable to inclined coke ovens.
