Abstract

5360. Burks, F. March 5. Case-hardening.-Cast iron for making magnets is first heated to a high temperature, for example, almost to its melting point, and is then suddenly chilled in a bath containing water, potassium cyanide, nitric or sulphuric acid, and common salt, with or without yellow prussiate of potash. For rapid cooling, the iron may be transferred from one bath to another.
