Abstract
4192. Lyttle, T. W. Feb. 20. F r a m e s and framing.-In vessels with cellular double bottoms, the transverse frames are closely spaced within the double bottoms and are widely spaced outside or above the double bottoms, and these frames are used in conjunction with longitudinal beams and closelyspaced transverse deck beams. Fig. 2 shows a partial longitudinal s e ction, and Fig. 3 a partial transverse section. The transverse frames a<1>, between which in the double bottoms are arranged the frames a, are outside or above the double bottoms preferably formed of double angles 1, 2 with a plate 3 l e t i n between them, worked intercostally between the fore and aft girders b and connected to the plating D by lugs c<3>. This intercostal plate is connected to the tank margin plate C, and is curved at e<1>, e<2>, e<3> for connexion to the beams E, F, G, respectively. The closely-spaced intermediate deck beams d<1> are connected to the plates D and longitudinals b by means of brackets i and double or single angle lugs j, as shown in Figs. 7, 8, and 9. A continuous stringer l<1> is fitted above the deck beams. The double bottoms in addition to be framed with the continuous transverse floors c may have intermediate frames, Fig. 3<a>, of angle section and reverse bars a<3> secured to brackets c<1> and to the longitudinal beams b.
