Abstract
6845. Ambrozy, E. March 18. Framing; bulkheads.-Ships fitted with a centrally-disposed longitudinal bulkhead are provided with bracings between such bulkhead and the ship's sides, consisting of beams 3 secured to the outer plating and at their inner ends to the bulkhead 2 by angle-plates 7. These angle-plates are secured to the bulkhead by their vertical flanges 9 and to the upper sides of the beams 3 by the flanges 5. The ends of the beams 3 rest in slots 10 in the vertical flange 9. Angle-plates are also fitted beneath the beams and secured to the bulkhead. Curved braces 15 are also used to secure the beams 3 to vertical stiffeners. The bulkhead 2 consists of a double thickness of plates which are arranged to break joint. Between the inner and outer bottoms 22, 21, longitudinal and transverse braces are fitted, the latter being connected by inclined struts 23. Diagonal braces connect the longitudinal bulkhead to the lower parts of the shell plating.
