Abstract

2710. Ott, F. Feb. 4. Reeds.-To facilitate the passage of the warps through the reed and to reduce the wear of the reed dents, the reed is oscillated vertically in the lay as the latter reciprocates, and the mean position of the reed in the lay is varied. The reed frame 5 is mounted on a cross-shaft 8, which engages. the ends of a pair of connecting-rods 38 and is moved vertically in the lay 2 by a pair of links 10 engaging eccentrics 14 on a shaft 12 mounted in bearings 13 carried by the loom framing. The shaft 12 is turned slowly by gearing 40, 39, 35, 33, 32. The mean position of the reed frame may also be altered by adjusting the bearings 13. When the reed frame is in its lower positions, it is prevented from tilting backwards, as it beats up the weft, by springs 20 and by rods 22 engaging buffers 23 on the loom framing.
