Loom reeds; shedding-motions.- In looms for weaving fancy leno fabrics by means of doup healds, the main dents of the reed a are spaced further apart than usual, and between them are fixed doubled dents s b, of which the lower ends are fixed in the bottom rib of the reed, either closely together, or at certain distances apart to admit of one or more plain halfdents c being placed between them. The standard warps 4, 5, 6 are drawn between the dents c and through ordinary calico healds, and the crossing- warps 1, 2, 3 between the dents b and through the doup heald d and ordinary calico healds behind the doups. To form the crossing, the doup and standard healds d, e are raised until the warps 1, 2, 3 touch the top of the dents b, when a lateral motion is given to the warps, by the ordinary action of the doup healds, to cross them over the warps 4, 5, 6. The standard and doup are then depressed, the warps 1, 2, 3 are slackened, and the weft is shot. The re-crossing of the warps 1, 2, 3 is effected by raising them to the top of the dents b, giving them the reverse lateral motion, raising the standard e, and depressing the doup d and the calico heald through which the warps 1, 2, 3 are drawn. The weft is then inserted.
