Beat-up motions; lays; reeds.-In a Poyser tape loom or in looms for weaving wider fabrics, a frame carrying inclined or suitably curved reed dents is moved transversely of the shed to cause the dents to beat up the weft. In one form, the frame comprises two rods e, slidably mounted in pivoted bearings m, and reciprocated and rocked by the action of a grooved or other cam q on a bowl p on an arm o secured to one of the rods. The upper ends of the rods are connected, and carry the upper ends of the dents a, which are curved, as shown, and may have their lower free or resiliently-arranged ends splayed outwards. The weft laid by the shuttle c is pressed up to the fell d by the curved parts of the dents. In another form, similarly curved dents are secured at their upper ends to a forwardly projecting arm on the upper end of a suitably guided frame, which is reciprocated vertically behind the path of the shuttle by crank, lever, and link mechanism. The lower ends of the dents may be rigidly secured to the frame, or may be resiliently arranged.
