Abstract

534,803. Looms. SHIMWELL, D. W. Jan. 9, 1940, No. 481. [Class 142 (iii)] Beat-up motions; lays.-In a loom having the shuttle boxes separate from the reed as described in Specification 498,191, the boxes c are operated by short cranks and long connecting rods k while the reed is operated by long cranks i and short connecting rods m the proportions of which are such that the boxes and race have a somewhat similar movement for about 220 degrees of the loom cycle. As shown, each rod k is pivoted to a bracket j secured to a shuttle box sword e while each rod m is pivoted to a lever n having one end fulcrummed; preferably adjustably, on the bracket j at o, and the other end connected through a toggle linkage p with the reed sword f, which is pivoted on the shuttle box sword e. The back t of the shuttle box is pivoted at u and normally kept in position against the sole plate of the box by a spring w, but is pulled back by a rod y and the reed operating rod m when the boxes and reed are moving together to facilitate entry of the shuttle.
