Abstract

180,793. Stone, F. M. March 17, 1921. Beat-up motions; reeds.-In a smallware or other loom for weaving endless belts with woven selvedges, the warps are shed by reeds a, a<4>, Fig. 1, which are moved up and down in supports c by means of rollers &c. d resting on levers e operated by cam-controlled lever mechanism. The supports c are attached to bars &c. w on blocks t connected by a shaft s, which is operated by a connecting-rod and a crank-disc on the firstmotion shaft, whereby the blocks t are caused to slide upon bars &c. u, and the reeds are caused to beat up the wefts inserted by the shuttle 5. Each reed comprises an upper bar 8, Fig. 9, having downwardly-extending dents fitting between the upwardly-extending dents on a lower bar. The latter dents are provided with stops a', whereby eyes a<2> to receive the warps are formed. The eyes in the adjacent reed are arranged alternately with those in the first reed. The reeds are arranged in frames carrying the rollers &c. d, Fig. 1. The reed dents may interfit so closely as to remain in position without using screws &c., but they may be further secured together by such means.
